It is vital that you and everyone else in your home are well aware of the signs of electrical problems that cannot be ignored. The reason this is so important is because you do not want to find that a small problem got out of hand to the point that it caused a house fire.
Sparks In The Outlets
Never make the mistake of assuming that it is normal or acceptable for there to be sparks shooting out of the outlets when you are plugging something in or unplugging it. This is a sign that the outlet has gone bad and you will want to replace it before it causes a short in your entire electrical system or starts a house fire. When you have an electrician come to your home to replace that outlet, you may want to go ahead and have him or her inspect he quality of the other outlets throughout the house. After all, many of them were most likely installed around the same time. So, if one is getting so old is it causing problems, there could very well be others that are causing problems or will in the near future.
This is one of those problems that tends to get overlooked because many people automatically assume that a flickering light is probably nothing more than alight bulb that needs to be tightened. It is especially important to make sure that you are not ignoring this issue if you have several lights throughout the house that flicker, as it is most likely not the bulbs themselves. You could have a few loose wires in the electrical panel box. Then again, the main electrical line coming into the house could be damaged or is starting to come loose. Either way, it is very important to make sure that you are getting a licensed electrician to take a look at it for you.
Plugs Are Getting Black Marks On Them
No matter how long you leave something plugged in or how much energy it consumes, you should ever be able to see black marks on a plug when you remove it from the outlet. If you a re beginning to notice what appears to be scorch marks or melted plastic, you will need to immediately stop using that outlet and call in an emergency electrician. The outlet is dangerous and could be the cause of a fire if you continue to use it before it is safely replaced by a skilled electrician.
Simply make sure that you always have the number for a trustworthy local electrician on hand so you will know who to call when such situations arise.
